About this Role

Planner I position reporting to the Manager of Current & Long Range Planning, responsible for delivering planning services including processing land development applications, coordinating public engagement, and preparing recommendations and reports to City Council and other bodies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process land development applications, subdivision applications, Land Use Bylaw amendments, road closures, and other development proposals
  • Coordinate intake of complete applications, conduct circulation and team review, evaluate and prioritize applications
  • Liaise with public, developers, applicants, and external agencies on development projects and prepare recommendations
  • Review and provide preliminary evaluations for land development proposals based on planning documents, bylaws, and municipal policies
  • Prepare, write, and present reports to City Council, Subdivision Approving Authority, Appeal Board, and the public

Qualifications

  • Minimum two-year Diploma in Urban Planning or related discipline; University Degree in Urban, Regional or Environmental Planning preferred
  • Minimum three years of related experience
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Member of or eligible for membership in Canadian Institute of Planners Alberta
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and GIS software
