About this Role

Lead hand position in Urban Forestry performing skilled arboricultural work including pruning, planting, and removing trees while providing crew direction and ensuring public safety.

Key Responsibilities

Prune park and boulevard trees from ground level, elevated platforms, and within tree crowns using power saws and arboriculture tools
Perform tree planting, removal, pest management, and young tree culture tasks
Act as crew leader providing site direction, work allocations, and progress reviews
Maintain time records, train crew members, and take responsibility for crew work and public safety
Avoid damage to private property, water courses, and wildlife habitat

Qualifications

Grade 12 completion plus courses in tree care and maintenance
Recognized Tree Trimmer/Climber course completion
Sound work experience in arboricultural work
Considerable knowledge of arboricultural methods, practices, safety precautions, materials, tools, and equipment
Knowledge of tree pests, diseases, and control methods; ability to perform hazardous climbing and removal tasks at height

Position Details

Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Regular full-time position

CUPE 23 Outside Division Collective Agreement
