About this Role

Permanent full-time Certified Utility Operator II for the Town of Ladysmith's Utilities Department. Responsible for operating and maintaining water and wastewater treatment plants, compost facility, and water supply systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain mechanical equipment and instrumentation in water/wastewater treatment plants, compost facility, and water supply systems
  • Monitor treatment plant operations through sampling, analyzing results, and adjusting flows and chemical additions
  • Maintain daily, monthly, and annual records in accordance with Federal and Provincial Regulations
  • Perform laboratory tests for quality and process control
  • Respond to call-out for emergency maintenance and repair work; work weekends as scheduled and overtime as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum grade 12 education and minimum 3 years recent and relevant experience in municipal water and sewer maintenance
  • Water Distribution Level I and Water Treatment Level II Certifications of Qualification or Competency from Environmental
  • Wastewater Collection Level I and Wastewater Treatment Level II Certifications of Qualification or Competency from Environmental
  • Chlorine Handler, Cross Connection Control, Confined Space, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods certificates
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 and WHMIS certificates; valid BC driver's license class 3 with airbrake endorsement
