Dispatch position for Charlottetown Police Services responsible for answering emergency calls, dispatching police/fire/ambulance units, and operating communications equipment. Reports to the Telecommunication/Records Coordinator and works across police, fire, and city departments.
Key Responsibilities
Receive, evaluate, record, and dispatch calls for police and fire services, capturing thorough information for responding officers
Operate multi-channel radio systems, 911 telephone systems, paging systems, and computer databases (PROS, CPIC, OSCID, Provincial Justice)
Enter, modify, and remove entries in CPIC system including warrants, missing persons, and stolen vehicles
Dispatch and control units in response to regular and emergency calls; apprise supervisors of urgent/major incidents
Contact outside agencies to arrange/cancel appointments and relay police information on behalf of field officers
Qualifications
Grade 12 or equivalent
Ability to effectively deal with the public in a tactful and professional manner
Demonstrated ability to multitask, concentrate, and respond effectively in crisis situations
Demonstrated ability to operate computers and telecommunications equipment; word processing at 50+ words per minute is an asset
Must pass security screening
