The Town of Cochrane seeks an experienced Municipal Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer to oversee financial operations, manage budgets, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide financial advice to Council and Senior Management. This is a permanent full-time leadership role reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and manage the municipality's budget, financial reporting, and strategic financial planning
Ensure compliance with provincial regulations and municipal policies
Provide expert financial advice to Council and Senior Management
Lead a team of finance professionals and foster collaboration and accountability
Enhance financial transparency and optimize resource allocation
Qualifications
5 to 7 years of progressively responsible management experience in public sector or municipal government
University degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration or equivalent post-secondary education
Professional designation – CPA or progression towards designation required
Demonstrated experience managing municipal budgets, financial planning and reporting
Proven knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
