The City of Charlottetown's Public Works Department seeks an Engineering Technician to support planning, design, construction, and inspection of municipal infrastructure projects. The role combines field and office work, requiring collaboration with internal departments, contractors, consultants, and the public while reporting to the Manager of Public Works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct engineering surveys including data collection, topographic surveys, and construction site layout
  • Prepare engineering drawings using AutoCAD, construction specifications, and tender documents for capital projects
  • Monitor and inspect contractors and construction sites daily to ensure quality and engineering standards
  • Provide technical support and inspection services to operational staff
  • Coordinate with City departments, consultants, architects, utility companies, government agencies, contractors, and the public; review and process contractor payment requests

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Survey Technology or Civil/Construction Engineering Technology from an accredited institution
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation or eligibility to obtain designation
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and surveying software
  • Minimum five years of related engineering or surveying experience
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence
