About this Role

Mackenzie County seeks casual grader operators to work primarily in Fort Vermilion and La Crete, operating heavy equipment for road maintenance and repairs. Positions are unionized with hours on an as-needed basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate grader safely on public roadways with proper situational awareness
  • Maneuver equipment with blades to move rocks, vegetation, topsoil, and level terrain
  • Perform daily grader maintenance including greasing, oil changes, blade changes, and equipment checks
  • Scrape and blade roads to proper crown; fill rough road sections efficiently
  • Assist with crack-filling, pavement patching, sign and culvert maintenance; weekend/holiday work may be required

Qualifications

  • Valid class 5 driver's license (class 1 or 3 an asset)
  • Two to three years related experience
  • Mechanical knowledge of heavy equipment
  • Knowledge of Mackenzie County road network
  • Knowledge of road maintenance and adequate verbal/written communication skills

Position Details

Vacation pay: 6% of earnings as per Collective Agreement
Hours: as needed basis
Unionized positions
Primary locations: Fort Vermilion and La Crete, may be required to work elsewhere in municipality
Reporting to: Public Works Supervisor (Fort Vermilion & La Crete)
