Key Responsibilities

  • Examine plans for proposed construction regulated under Part 9 of the BC Building Code
  • List non-conforming items and discuss with principals involved
  • Prepare and issue building permits when regulations are satisfied
  • Perform routine drafting, correspondence, record maintenance, and filing
  • Answer enquiries concerning regulations and bylaws; provide information to inspectors and municipal employees

Qualifications

  • Graduation from Institute of Technology with diploma in Building Technology plus related experience in building construction or municipal regulatory work, or equivalent combination
  • Knowledge of municipal bylaws, BC Building Code, building construction practices and materials
  • Ability to interpret building plans rapidly and accurately; perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, architects, engineers, and public
  • Building Officials' Association of British Columbia Level 1 Qualification and registration as a Building Official; valid BC Driver's License

Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM (Nine-Day Fortnight)
Temporary full-time position until December 3, 2026
