About this Role

Regulatory and inspectional role involving inspection of residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing, sewer, and gas installations to ensure compliance with municipal standards, codes, by-laws, and applicable regulations. Incumbents exercise considerable independent judgment in making technical decisions and interpreting applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect new and existing plumbing, sewer, and gas installations
  • Approve or reject inspected work
  • Interpret applicable regulations and communicate decisions to owners, tradesmen, and contractors
  • Prepare reports and write objection notices
  • Maintain records related to work

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Completion of plumbing trade apprenticeship plus sound experience as journeyperson plumber and gas fitter, or equivalent combination
  • Thorough knowledge of plumbing, gas fitting, hydronic heating, and sewer-connection codes and standards
  • Ability to understand and interpret building plans and drainage requirements
  • BC Driver's License and B.C. Certificate of Qualification in Plumbing & Class B Gas Fitter Certificate

70 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday 7:30 AM – 4:15 PM (Nine-Day Fortnight)
Subject to Note 'Q' of Schedule 'B' of CUPE 23 Inside Division Collective Agreement
