About this Role

The City of Burnaby Parks, Recreation and Culture Department seeks an experienced Outdoor Recreation Hiking Instructor to deliver safe, high-quality hiking instruction and lead community-based outdoor programs for participants of all ages and abilities.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and lead hikes and outdoor programs
Manage participants and assess trail and site safety
Prepare program materials and handle trip planning and logistics
Complete attendance and incident reporting
Ensure positive participant experience with strong focus on safety

Qualifications

Post-secondary education and/or experience in outdoor recreation programs and instruction
Demonstrated knowledge of hiking practices and outdoor safety
Ability to plan and lead engaging, inclusive programs for diverse participants
Valid Emergency First Aid with CPR Level C
Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (preferred); Class 4 Driver's Licence (highly preferred)

Position Details

Contract position

Auxiliary position with hours and shifts based on operational requirements; no guaranteed hours

Typical shifts include weekdays and weekends, class time average 2 to 3 hours

Locations: Barnet Marine Park, Deer Lake Park, Robert Burnaby, Byrne Creek, Central Park, and surrounding locations
